The volunteers with North Shore Rescue probably would have preferred spending Family Day watching screenings at the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival.

But instead, many spent the day rescuing hikers, snowshoers, and mountain climbers.

The local team was involved in eight missions and six rescues on Family Day.

One was deferred to the District of North Vancouver Fire Department and another was deferred to an RCMP emergency response team.

This morning, North Shore Rescue is continuing its efforts to help two snowshoers who are trapped near Crown Mountain.

Other calls yesterday included an ankle injury on Grouse Mountain, a longline rescue on Cypress Mountain, and a helicopter mission to Mount Seymour.
