Forbes Travel Guide just released its star ratings for 2018, and a few Vancouver hotels, restaurants, and spas made the prestigious list.

Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver, Rosewood Hotel Georgia, and Trump International Hotel & Tower each earned Five Stars, which is Forbes’ highest ranking.

Five-Star properties are defined as "outstanding, often iconic properties with virtually flawless service and amazing facilities".

Several other hotels were awarded Four Stars, including Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, Fairmont Pacific Rim, Opus Hotel Vancouver, Pan Pacific Vancouver, Shangri-La Hotel, and Sutton Place Hotel.

Restaurants get ranked as well, with a handful in Vancouver being recognized with a Four-Star rating: Bishop's, Hawksworth Restaurant, Mott 32, and West Restaurant and Bar.

Among the local spas that got a nod were CHI, the Spa at Shangri-La Hotel; Sense, A Rosewood Spa; the Spa by Ivanka Trump; and Willow Stream Spa at Fairmont Pacific Rim.

A few places got a “Recommended” badge, such as River Rock Casino Resort, the St. Regis Hotel, and YEW Seafood and Bar.

On Vancouver Island, Four Stars went to Wickaninnish Inn Tofino and Victoria’s Fairmont Empress and Magnolia Hotel & Spa.

Salt Spring Island’s Hastings House Country House Hotel also acquired Four Stars.

The Four Seasons Resort and Residences Whistler was the only property from the mountain town to be included.

Star ratings are awarded by a team of anonymous professional inspectors who travel the world to assess hotels, restaurants, and spas based on up to 900 objective standards. Forbes' scoring system uses a proprietary algorithm that weighs service at 75 percent and the facility quality at 25 percent. Its standards emphasize graciousness, thoughtfulness, and personalized service.

Eleven Vancouver hotels earned a Forbes nod, compared to seven in Toronto and three in Montreal.

Vancouver and Toronto both had five restaurants included in the rating, while Montreal had three.

Globally, Macau reclaimed its spot as the city with the most Five-Star hotels (12).

Worldwide, cities with the highest number of Five-Star restaurants are Macau (12) and Hong Kong (nine).
