WestJet plane safely evacuated at Nanaimo airport after cabin fills with smoke

      A frightening situation in the cabin of a Vancouver to Nanaimo flight had a happy ending early this afternoon.

      The trouble began when smoke started billowing into the passenger area onboard a WestJet Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 twin turboprop.

      According to CBC News, the plane landed normally and then people were rushed away through emergency exits.

      All 56 passegers escaped safely.

      It's unclear what caused the problem.
