Nifty for Fifty blowout returns for 11th year with 30-plus local designers on deck
Nifty for Fifty, a designer sale featuring locally crafted goods, returns for its 11th annual iteration on April 15, bringing with it a lineup of more than 30 makers who will have a selection of deeply discounted apparel, art, jewellery, and more on deck.
Taking place at Heritage Hall (3102 Main Street), this year’s blowout includes nearly 20 new vendors, including Dahlia Drive, Birch Street Studio, and Make More Happy. From ecofriendly frocks to one-of-a-kind sketchbooks to small-batch shrubs, all items will be priced at $50 or less—a huge bargain in some cases considering that all products are designed or handmade in Vancouver.
According to event producer and Adhesif Clothing designer Melissa Ferreira, there is a significant increase in upcycled garments and jewellery at this year’s blowout. “It says a lot about what many of our local designers are inspired by and reflects a growing global trend in the realm of sustainable design,” she said in a media release.
Founded in 2007 as a “glorified fashion garage sale”, Nifty for Fifty offers Vancouverites a chance to nab quality, handmade goods at discounted prices from local designers, artists, jewellers, and other makers. It began with 12 designers and has since grown to 31 sellers with over 3,000 shoppers attending the one-day sale.
The event is cash-only and admission is $2 at the door. Like with any great sale, customers are advised to arrive early to avoid disappointment.
