More than a dozen local florists are using blooms to craft one-of-a-kind gowns, jackets, and other garb as part of Fleurs de Villes’ third annual Floral Mannequin series, which takes place in Vancouver from Wednesday to Sunday (May 2 to 6).

Founded by Canadian lifestyle expert Tina Barkley and media pro Karen Marshall, the free cross-Canada event offers florists a platform to flex their creative skills in the realm of fashion design. Each florist is paired with a retailer and tasked with dreaming up an outfit made entirely from fresh blossoms that will dress a mannequin for public viewing.

This year’s Metro Vancouver participants include Dushan Flowers, Maureen Sullivan Floral Design School, Passion Floral Boutique, and the Flower Factory. Their creations—which range from stunning rose-studded headpieces to daisy-dotted frocks—will be on display at Metropolis at Metrotown (4700 Kingsway, Burnaby) during the installation’s five-day stop, where visitors may also browse blooms and bouquets at a pop-up European-style flower market.

“This show connects the public with a sensory experience they won’t see anywhere else,” said Marshall in a media statement. “This spring, we’re excited to continue our celebration of world-class floral talent and welcome new partners, fans, and cities to our Fleurs de Villes family.”

Burnaby is the third destination for Fleurs de Villes’ Floral Mannequin series. It also made stops at shopping centres in Quebec City, Toronto, and Ottawa, and will host iterations in Edmonton and Calgary this spring.

Fleurs de Villes’ Floral Mannequin series takes place from Wednesday to Sunday (May 2 to 6) at Metropolis at Metrotown. See event listing for details.
