Vancouver's Kitsilano Pool opens this Saturday (May 19) following $3.3-million overhaul
Following a $3.3.-million overhaul, Vancouver’s Kitsilano Pool officially opens for the summer this Saturday (May 19). New Brighton and Second Beach pools will also open to the public this weekend.
The Kits renovation, which was approved by city council last fall, included replacing the pool-basin membrane, restoring the pool deck, and installing an electric pump that will replenish the pool with more ocean water, thus reducing the use of potable water by an estimated 430,000 gallons per month.
The park board says the revamp, which was funded by the municipal and federal govenments, will make the water “feel saltier” and improve the swimming experience.

Vancouver’s only saltwater swimming pool, Kits Pool opened in 1931 and has not received a significant upgrade since the ’70s. The heated, 137-metre facility is arguably the city’s most popular outdoor pool.
Kitsilano Pool opens on Saturday (May 19) at 9 a.m. and will operate until mid-September. New Brighton and Second Beach pools open at 10 a.m.
