Tonight, crowds will be heading off to a variety of locations around the Lower Mainland to watch the Canada Day fireworks.

You can catch them at Canada Place, New Westminster Quay, the Steveston waterfront in Richmond, the Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre in Surrey, Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, and Town Centre Park in Coquitlam, to name a few sites.

There's also been a ton of free music across the region to celebrate the 151st anniversary of Canadian Confederation.

You can see some images below that are floating around social media to mark the day.

On this Canada Day, it hasn't been lost on many that people were living in this region for thousands of years before Canada became a country.

And they weren't shy about sharing their thoughts about this over Twitter.
