A Vancouver-based wellness company has issued a recall of one of their baby products.

On July 6, Saje Natural Wellness announced a recall of their product Splish Splash Gentle Baby Wash (250 millilitres), and a 50 millilitre version that is included in the Wee and Well Gentle Baby Care Kit. Affected batches include lot numbers 814020, 813080, and 816050, which can be found on the information panel on the back of the product under the SKU number.

The product was introduced in May as part of the launch of the Saje Baby product line made with natural ingredients, and was distributed in retail locations across Canada, the U.S., and internationally.

A routine test of the product revealed contamination with the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Three cases have been reported. An investigation into the contamination and production procedures is underway with the manufacturer.

A 50 millilitre version of the Splish Splash Gentle Baby Wash is included in Saje Natural Wellness' Wee and Well Gentle Baby Care Kit.

The bacterium has been known to cause infection, particularly for those with compromised immune systems.

Symptoms includes skin irritation, such as an allergic rash, itching, redness, or irritation; ear aches, including babies pulling at ears or being restless, plugged ears, or (in severe cases) yellow fluid; or fever. Infections in health people may develop into swimmer's ear or hot tub rash while more serious infections may include high fever, chills, confusion, or shock.

Anyone experiencing symptoms is asked to contact a health practitioner. More information is available at the HealthLink BC website.

Saje is requesting all products to be returned for a refund at any Saje location or through prepaid mail by contacting Saje at 1-877-275-7253 or by email.
