Although this year's Davie Street Party was cancelled for budgetary reasons, the Vancouver Pride Society (VPS) still has other parties going on.

With the help of the queer-run outdoor pop-up party company Public Disco, the VPS will hold the free, family-friendly, and all-ages Pride Premiere 2018 in the downtown core from 5 p.m. to midnight on Friday (July 27) outside the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Performers will include Colby b, Diana Boss, DjG Guve, DJ O Show, qissala, Innezz, Kasey Riot, Karsten Sollors, DJ Skylar Love, Softieshan, DJ Taffi Louis, and dance by Andrew Haydock, Katie Lowen, Marisa Christogeorge, and Ralph Escamillan.

Things'll get fierce when a drag competition works it on the runway, hosted by local drag performers Continental Breakfast and PM with judging by Alma B Itches, Misty H Meadows-Gurl. Starting at 6:30 p.m., this drag race will feature contestants will include Rogue, Cleopatra Compton, Isabella, Xana, X, Gender Spice, Maiden China, Shay Dior, Molly Poppinz, and Eva Scarlett.

A kinetic peacock with moving tail feathers and lights named Strut, will also be unveiled. As peacocks are symbols of bisexuality, this interactive art piece is intended to raise awareness of bisexuality, including biphobia, erasure, and invisibility.

Other elements of the event include a silent disco (dancers wear headphones and can choose from two channels of music from live DJs), a main stage, street performers, vendors and food trucks, an outdoor beer garden, a sober lounge, a sparkle station, and activities ranging from button-making to giant Jenga and ping pong.
