      If you're a UBC student who needs to crawl out from under your stacks of thesis research materials and connect with LGBT folks, here's a chance to so on-campus in a sparkly way.

      In previous years, what was known as the Pride Picnic has been changed to UBC Pride, an event that will be held on Wednesday (August 1) from 4 to 8 p.m.

      The festivities, which will transform the University Commons outside the AMS Student Nest into one big glitter-filled party, will include:

      • drag shows (featuring student talent), a dressup trunk available for those who want to partake in being a total drag;

      • open-air dance party experts Public Disco and student DJs who'll bring the beats;

      • live mural painting, games, and slam poetry;

      • a pop-up library and educational resources;

      • food trucks and a beer garden.

      Details are available at UBC's UTown website.

      It's just one of numerous Pride and LGBT events going on in the city this week. For more about what's happening around town, visit our Pride guide webpage.
