Vancouver Pride may have wrapped up but that's not the end of LGBT celebrations across the province. In fact, there are many more to come and there's one currently on in the Okanagan.

The weeklong 11th annual Kelowna Pride celebration kicked off on August 11 and continues until this Saturday (August 18).

Today (August 14) from 5:30 to 8 p.m., there'll be a workshop and screening of the short documentary "A Mile in Our Moccasins", about HIV and Indigenous people and culture. (The filmmaking team was recently honoured as a parade marshal in the 2018 Vancouver Pride parade.) It'll be paired with the Indigenous HIV educational video "Strong Medicine", made by the Canadian Aboriginal AIDS Network and HIV organization CATIE.

On Thursday (August 16), there'll be a free, family-friendly Trans Pride March and Social starting at 6 p.m. that will head from Bernard Avenue to the Laurel Packinghouse (1304 Ellis Street), where speakers and a social event will be held.

Then on Friday (August 17), it's off to the drag races as Kelowna's Next Drag Superstar Competition heats up the runway with drag kings and queens strutting their stuff.

The festivities culminate in the Pride March and Festival in the Park, to be held from 1 to 8 p.m. on Saturday (August 18). The march will wind through Waterfront Park and head to Tugboat Bay where a festival will feature live entertainment, vendors, and children's activities.

The grand marshal for the parade will be gay Syrian refugee Anas Qartoumeh (originally from Damascus), who arrived in Kelowna in November 2017 and was sponsored by the Central Okanagan Refugee Committee.

To top it all off, there'll be a Wrap-Up Dance at Level Nightclub (275 Leon Avenue) from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. featuring drag-queen DJ Molly Popinz.

These are only some of the events being held. To find out more of what's happening or full details, visit the Kelowna Pride website.
