You no longer have to assemble your own Ikea furniture, thank God

In a move that will likely save many a sanity and relationship, Ikea has announced that it’s now offering in-home assembly and mounting services in Canada.

The on-demand resource will allow shoppers to connect with a self-employed labourer, who will then come to their home as early as the next day to assemble the recently purchased piece of Swedish-designed furniture. Prices vary depending on the item being constructed, and start at $56 for bedframes, for example, and at $72 for trickier-to-put-together items like wardrobes.

Users are matched with labourers through TaskRabbit, a mobile app and website that connects  people who need tasks done around the home, like furniture building, snow removal, and cleaning, with “taskers” or freelance handy-people.

The furniture-assembly service will be available in Vancouver in mid-November. It’s now accessible in the Greater Toronto Area. The launch will continue with Montreal in spring 2019.

Ikea acquired the U.S.–founded TaskRabbit in 2017. The online marketplace is accessible in more than 45 countries across the U.S. and U.K., and counts furniture assembly as one of its fastest growing categories. The rollout in Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal marks TaskRabbit’s entrance into the Canadian market.
