This week in Toronto, the Korean automaker Kia is in the spotlight after the fastest vehicle in its fleet was named the 2019 Canadian Car of the Year.

Nearly 70 members of the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada selected the Kia Stinger. It's powered by a twin-turbo V6 engine and comes with a 360-degree camera-monitoring system.

The announcement was made at the Canadian International Autoshow.

Kia tested the Stinger's handling by taking it out for two months on a frozen lakebed in Sweden in -35 °C temperatures.

Earlier this year, the AJAC named the Kia Stinger as the best large car in Canada. The Kia Forte was honoured as the best small car in Canada.

The AJAC also announced  at the Canadian International Autoshow that the Jaguar I-Pace is the 2019 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year. It's the first fully electric vehicle to earn this distinction.

The Jaguar I-Pace is manufactured at a Magna International facility in Graz, Austria. It's the second Land Rover model built by the company, which has a head office in Aurora, Ontario.

The Jaguar I-Pace is the first fully electric vehicle to be honoured with the SUV of the year designation from Canadian automobile journalists.

Jaguar is a British luxury vehicle brand owned by India's Tata Motors.

"AJAC journalists are among the most objective and discerning automotive professionals in the country, and the fact that these two vehicles have risen to the top of our vigorous testing and voting protocol means that they're truly among the best available to Canadian buyers," AJAC president Mark Richardson said in a news release issued today.

At the Vancouver International Auto Show on March 19, the AJAC will announce the winners of the 2019 Canadian Green Car of the Year and the 2019 Canadian Green Utility Vehicle of the Year.
