While frustration ensured at the start of the Easter weekend as travelers endured up to four-sailing waits on some B.C. Ferries routes on Friday (April 19), long waits have also developed on some routes today as travelers head back home after the long weekend.

B.C. Ferries issued a travel advisory today (April 22), warning passengers that traffic volumes are higher than normal.

Passengers are advised to factor in extra travel time due to heavy traffic and schedule flexibility, or travel during off-peak times is recommended.

Several one- to two-sailing waits have been listed for routes to Tsawwassen, with CBC News reporting earlier today that there was a three-sailing wait for Nanaimo (Duke Point) to Tsawwassen.  As of 2:15 p.m. today, the next available sailing on that route is at 8:15 p.m., which is also approaching full capacity.

Pay parking facilities at the Horseshoe Bay Terminal have reached capacity, which can affect passengers travelling on the routes to Bowen Island, Sunshine Coast, and Nanaimo.

Alternate parking may be available at the Lion’s Club parking lot 9near Gleneagles Community Centre in West Vancouver), and public transit, taxi, carpooling, or other alternatives are recommended.

Tsawwassen and Little River terminal pay parking facilities may also reach capacity.

Even foot passengers are being affected, as foot passengers from the Southern Gulf Islands to Tsawwassen is fully booked and walk-on space is near capacity.
