Vancouver Marathon 2019: road closures and detours on May 4 and 5

      If you’re planning to be out and about in Vancouver this weekend, it’s important to note that there will be a number of road closures and detours due to the Vancouver Marathon.

      The 42.2-kilometre (26.2-mile) marathon, which was launched in 1972, will be held on Sunday (May 5) and will be welcoming runners from over 65 countries.

      The marathon will start at 8:30 a.m. in Queen Elizabeth Park and end in Coal Harbour.

      However, road closures will take place on both Saturday and Sunday (May 4 and 5).

      The marathon will affect roads in the areas of Riley Park, Oakridge, North and South Cambie, False Creek, Fairview, Chinatown, Yaletown, West End, Stanley Park, Downtown Vancouver, Point Grey and UBC, Dunbar, Kerrisdale, Southlands, and Kitsilano.

      Road closures and detours include the following times in the following neighbourhoods:

      • Cambie North: from 5 p.m. on May 4 to 1 p.m. on May 5

      • Cambie South: from 6:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

      • False Creek/Chinatown/Yaletown: 6:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.

      • Kerrisdale/Dunbar: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

      • UBC: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

      • Point Grey/Kitsilano: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

      • Downtown Vancouver: 6:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.

      • West End: 7 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

      • Stanley Park: 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the seawall fully or partially closed between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

      • Coal Harbour: noon on May 4 to 7 p.m. on May 5

      Several bus routes will also be affected, including 2, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 15, 17, 19, 22, 25, 33, 41, 49, 99, 160, 210, 211, 240, 246, C18, C20, and 23. SkyTrain and SeaBus schedules won’t be affected but large numbers of spectators and participants may be using the Canada Line in the morning on May 5 to travel to the start line.
