An ongoing investigation into luggage thefts at the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) has led to the arrest of a male suspect.

Richmond RCMP announced on July 26 that a male suspect had been captured on surveillance video and was circulated among police and security personnel at the airport.

When the suspect returned to YVR, an officer identified and arrested him.

Investigators and YVR Security are working to determine if he was working alone or if he had any accomplices.

The Georgia Straight has contacted Richmond RCMP for further details.

Earlier this year, plainclothes investigators from the Richmond RCMP YVR Detachment had been conducting surveillance at the airport due to a series of thefts there since March of this year.

On April 17, a 60-year-old woman, Miriam Fajardo was arrested after officers saw her stealing a purse from a passenger.

On May 10, she was found guilty of theft of $5,000 or under and willfully resisting a peace officer. She had been suspected of working with an organized theft group who travel from airport to airport.
