It’s not a secret that Canada’s prime minister is an avid supporter of the LGBT community, and he’s in town to help celebrate the start of Pride Week in Vancouver.

This afternoon, Justin Trudeau made a surprise appearance at the Fountainhead Pub (1025 Davie Street) in the heart of the Davie Village.

He stopped by to greet and take photos with surprised customers at the gay bar, and took time to chit-chat with several patrons as well.

His visit to a local gay bar coincides with the start of Vancouver's Pride Week.

Other notable local individuals in attendance included the member of Parliament for Vancouver Centre, Dr. Hedy Fry, as well as Liberal Party of Canada for Vancouver Kingsway candidate and former CTV News anchor Tamara Taggart.

According to the PM’s press office, Trudeau is the first sitting head of government in North America to visit a gay bar.
