Commuters and office workers in Downtown Vancouver received a shock when an unusual vehicle crash shattered morning routines around 9:30 a.m.

Vancouver Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Aaron Roed told the Georgia Straight by phone that a driver was reversing a black Honda Accord to park on Hornby Street, between Davie and Helmcken streets, when it somehow jumped the bike lane and rolled over.

The vehicle struck several pedestrians and crashed into a federal immigration office located at 1148 Hornby Street.

Sgt. Roed said that a glass panel of the office was broken and there was some damage to the building but no one inside the building was hurt.

The driver and passenger, as well as two pedestrians, were taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Vancouver police announced at 9:58 a.m. that Hornby Street between Helmcken and Davie streets, was closed as police investigated the crash but the road was reopened shortly after noon.

Sgt. Roed said that the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
