Update (November 29): Fishermen Helping Kids With Cancer (FHKWC) announced that due to inclement weather conditions, the sale has been postponed and rescheduled to December 7.

      Original article (November 28):

Seafood shoppers will want to mark this one on the calendar if you’re searching for fresh fish—while contributing to a worthy cause at the same time.

The Sixth Annual Herring Sale will be held by Fishermen Helping Kids With Cancer (FHKWC) in Steveston from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday (November 30) at 12740 Trites in Richmond.

Over on Vancouver Island, a sale will also be held on the same day from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at FAS Seafoods (27 Erie Street) in Victoria.

Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows News has also reported that a sale will also be held at Bruce's Country Market (23963 Lougheed Highway) in Maple Ridge, starting at 8 a.m. until all herring is sold.

Pacific herring, freshly caught in the Gulf of Georgia, will be sold in nine kilograms (20 pounds) bags sold for $15 each (cash only).

The sale is run by volunteers from B.C.’s commercial fishing industry and all proceeds will go to the B.C. Children’s Hospital to help children with cancer.

Since it was first held in 2011, the annual event has raised a cumulative total of $550,000.
