After a consumer had a reaction to a shortbread product with an undeclared allergen, a national recall has been initiated.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced on December 6 that Tosuta International Sales Ltd. is recalling Landers’ Australian brand Gluten-Free Macadamia Shortbread because it contains milk that isn’t declared on the label.

The affected product is sold in 175 kilogram packages with UPC 6 66394 00012 7 and date code “BEST BEFORE 23 SEP 20”.

Those who have this product should either return it to the place of purchase or throw it out.

Anyone with an allergy to milk should not consume this product as it could cause a serious or life-threatening reaction.

Thus far, there has been one reported reaction due to consumption of this product.

The recall was prompted by a consumer complaint.

More information about milk allergies is available at the Health Canada website.
