British Columbian cyclists should take note that specific models of Teammachine bicycles and framesets are being recalled nationally due to a potential breakage problem.

Health Canada announced today (December 19) that a national recall is underway for model years 2018 and 2019 of Teammachine SLR01 DISC bicycles and framesets.

The fork steerer tube is prone to cracking or breaking during usage, creating a potential for cyclists to fall while riding their bicycles.

As of December, there haven’t been any reports of injuries or incidents in Canada, where 94 units of the affected product were sold.

However, in the United States, where approximately 842 units were sold, the company received four reports of forks breaking and two reports of injuries due to falls (including scratches, bruising, and shoulder injury).

The affected products were sold from July 2017 to September 2019 and were available in red, green, grey, graphite, blue, and aqua green colours. BMC is printed on the downtube.

Affected models have serial numbers (printed on the underside of the bottom bracket of the bicycle) beginning with 8R17 and 8R18, followed by one letter and a four-digit code.

Only bicycles and framesets with an FK6 fork require a replacement fork—forks of type FK6N aren’t affected.

They were distributed by BMC USA Corp, the manufacturer was BMC Switzerland AG of Switzerland, and the models were made in either Poland or Taiwan.

Anyone who has the affected products should immediately stop using them and contact a local BMC authorized dealer for a free inspection and free replacement work.

The Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold, or given away in Canada.

Any health or safety incidents related to the use of this product (or any other consumer products) by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.
