Windy weather is making it more difficult for some to travel between Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.

Today, B.C. Ferries announced the cancellation of the 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2 p.m. sailings leaving Tsawwassen for Swartz Bay.

The 11 a.m., noon, and 1 p.m. trips leaving Swartz Bay have also been cancelled.

"The safety of our passengers and crew is of primary importance to us," B.C. Ferries states on its website. "We don’t take the decision to cancel sailings lightly, as we know customers rely on us to get to their destinations. We will resume service as soon as it is safe to do so."

There is a scheduled 12:45 p.m. sailing from Tsawwassen to Duke Point near Nanaimo and a sailing from 1 p.m. between Departure Bay and Horseshoe Bay.

      Update

The Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen sailings are running again.
