      Update: An Air Canada plane has made a safe emergency landing in Madrid. None of the passengers or crew was injured.

      Earlier story:

      People around the world are transfixed by live video footage of an Air Canada plane preparing for an emergency landing.

      It reportedly suffered damage during takeoff at Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas airport.

      A fighter jet was sent in the air to check on the state of the aircraft, which was bound for Toronto.

      The Colombian Herald has reported that one of the landing gear's tires appeared to have burst.

      It's been flying over Spain burning off fuel.

      Meanwhile, a large group of first responders are on the ground at Madrid's airport.
