      Update (March 10):

Upper Fraser Valley RCMP stated today (March 10) that a physiotherapist who was previously charged with two counts of sexual assault is facing more charges.

Sanjay Amrutkar, a 38-year-old physiotherapist from Chilliwack, had been arrested for offences in August and September 2019 and appeared in court on February 12 to face two counts of sexual assault.

However, new allegations have arisen, resulting in four additional charges of sexual assault.

Police arrested Amrutkar on March 4. He has since been released from custody pending a court date later this month.

As investigators believe there may be other victims who have not yet spoken with police, anyone who may have been a victim or who knows of someone who may have been a victim is asked to contact Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

      Original article (February 21):

A male physiotherapist working in the Fraser Valley has been charged with sexual assault.

Upper Fraser Valley RCMP stated today (February 21) that 38-year-old Sanjay Amrutkar, a physiotherapist at a Chilliwack health clinic, appeared in court on February 12 to face two counts of sexual assault.

He had been arrested for offences that allegedly took place in August and September 2019 while he was working as a physiotherapist.

He has been released from custody pending his next appearance in court in March.

“Our investigators are aware that there may be other victims who have not reported an encounter to police,” Chilliwack RCMP Const. Jennifer Thomson stated in a news release. “To further our investigation we encourage those persons to contact police.”

The College of Physical Therapists of British Columbia stated that Amrutkar voluntarily entered into an agreement with the college’s inquiry committee that he would temporarily stop providing physical therapy to female patients, unless someone else of the patient’s choosing was present, as of October 8, 2019.

The agreement was in effect while the college was conducting its investigation, which was initiated when a patient in Chilliwack alleged that Amrutkar touched her in a non-therapeutic manner.

The college lists Amrutkar as employed at the CBI Health Centre in Sardis area of Chilliwack.

Anyone with information, or anyone who believes that they or someone they know may have been a victim, is asked to contact the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
