While investigators are seeking to determine why a cyclist on a motorized bicycle crashed in Surrey, officers arrested a motorcyclist in Langley who was found to be not only on a stolen motorcycle but was also wanted on a nation-wide warrant.

Surrey RCMP stated today (February 21) that around 9:25 p.m. on February 18, police received a report about a man found injured in the 17900 block of Fraser Highway in Surrey.

He had allegedly been riding a bicycle modified with a gas engine as headed west on Fraser Highway.

However, he had collided with a metal pole. The cause of the collision remains to be determined.

The 29-year-old cyclist was taken to hospital and remains in serious condition.

Anyone who witnessed either the collision or circumstances leading up to it, or anyone who has video footage, is asked to contact Surrey RCMP by calling 604-599-0502.

Meanwhile, Langley RCMP stated on February 20 that patrol officers spotted a male suspect, who was known to be prohibited from driving, riding a motorcycle in South Langley on February 19.

Officers arrested him without incident and found there was a Canada-wide warrant issued for his arrest. He had breached the conditions of his statutory release and had been at-large since November 5, 2019.

In addition, police found that the motorcycle he was riding was stolen from an Aldergrove residence on Christmas Day 2019.

When officers searched the suspect, they found he had a small quantity of what is believed to be methamphetamine.

The 41-year-old man remains in custody while investigators are preparing charges to be recommended.
