Writing is never easy work, but it can be a lot less painful with feedback from experts and the company of peers. And, hey, shockingly nice scenery and breaks for live music can only help too.

That’s why renowned local author and editor Zsuzsi Gartner is launching the Writers Adventure Camp, slated for June 6 and 7 at the Point Artist-Run Centre in Whistler. Gartner herself will be holding workshops on developing fictional voices. Joining her as camp counsellors will be best-selling author Charlotte Gill (on writing memoir), Leacock-medal winner Mark Leiren-Young (on creating humour), and accordionist-songwriter-novelist Geoff Berner (on turning prose into tunes).

Gartner’s plan is to expand the event to a weeklong format next spring, to include screenwriting and visual-arts components. Registration closes on May 29. Go to the Point Artists website for details.
