The bombing of Air India Flight 182 on June 23, 1985, claimed the lives of all 329 aboard—including those of Renée Sarojini Saklikar’s aunt and uncle. Now, more than 28 years later, the local poet and author has created a poignant meditation on her own evolving loss and the mark this tragedy has left on the nation’s psyche. In children of air india: un/authorized exhibits and interjections (Nightwood Editions), Saklikar offers a winding, elegiac “docu-poetic collection” filled with still-fresh echoes of the worst act of terrorism in Canadian history. She’ll be launching the book at 7 p.m. Wednesday (November 13), at the Djavad Mowafaghian World Art Centre in the Goldcorp Centre for the Arts at SFU Woodward’s. Admission is free.
