The newest fashion retailer to open in Vancouver is Simons, a Canadian-owned and -operated fashion franchise originating from Quebec that's never had a store in B.C. before.
Its grand opening is tomorrow morning (October 15), but the Straight got to take a sneak peak before the doors open to the public.
The 100,000-square-foot store at Park Royal features two levels of women’s and men’s fashions, bags, accessories, and home decor, with both in-house brands and luxury labels.
The CEO of Simons, Peter Simons, said that the store aims to bring a versatile range of style choices to shopping fans.
“Our customers are sophisticated....They are mixing luxury with more value pieces and they are trying to make their own style,” Simons told the Straight while giving the tour.
Some of the key pieces and trends for this fall include dresses, blouses, and oversized fluid shapes. “We’re still in the big-print period right now where there is a lot of exploration around new color combinations,” he adds.
With core values of integrating fashion, art and architecture for a unique shopping experience, Simons features three art installations specially commissioned for this store. One of them is a multi-colored piece by Douglas Coupland that hangs from the store’s central atrium. Titled Bow Tie, the sculpture composes of two brightly striped cones that meet at a midpoint which provides a reference to fashion as well as culture and engineering.
Another piece of artwork featured in the store is Innocence Disobedience, a ceramic wall sculpture by West Vancouver painter and sculptor Bobbie Burgers. It showcases 50 flowers in different shades of blues, greys, whites and black that gently floats on the wall in the women's apparel section.
