The social-media platform Hootsuite has put a positive spin on its layoff of 20 Vancouver workers.

In a statement emailed to the Georgia Straight, the company's corporate communications manager, Sandy Pell, wrote: "Hootsuite has completed a global reorganization to create a simpler, more aligned business that is purpose-built to support our over 10m customers, and scale to a multi-billion dollar enterprise. With this reorganization, we have merged some business units and cut others, which unfortunately meant we had to transition around 20 Vancouver employees out of the business. With this organizational change, our recent leadership additions and our continued focus on social innovation, Hootsuite is well positioned for success."

Pell added that the company "will continue to hire over 100 people in 2016 under this new organizational structure".

The Straight reported earlier today about rumours that the company was downsizing its operation in Vancouver.
