In response to the news that the Pride flag was burnt at UBC during OUTweek on campus, Mayor Gregor Robertson has requested that the Pride flag be flown at Vancouver City Hall in a show of solidarity.

Openly gay councillor Tim Stevenson, who once headed UBC’s LGBT student organization and also met with the International Olympic Committee during the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics to address LGBT rights, helped to raise the Pride flag at 10 a.m. at City Hall.

On February 9, the burnt remains of the UBC Pride flag were discovered.

The Pride Collective at UBC told the Georgia Straight by phone that the remainder of OUTweek events will continue as planned, with the exception of the Fuck the Cis-tem March, a rally to demand a safer and more accessible campus for LGBT people. OUTweek concludes with a discussion on Friday (February 12).
