Local fashion designer Behareh Memarian is set to debut her fall/winter 2016 collection at New York Fashion Week tonight (February 16).

The Iran-born designer has crafted a collection inspired by the glamour of old Hollywood titled “Extinct”, which uses premium, 100% cruelty-free and manmade materials in garments like floor-length, crystal-beaded gowns and luxurious, oversized faux-fur coats.

Though she first studied engineering upon arriving in Canada, Memarian later followed her true passion by earning a diploma in fashion design at the Art Institute of Vancouver.

She joins 12 other Art Institute students and alumni from across North America in the showcase tonight at the Skylight at Moynihan Station in New York City.

Click through the gallery above for a preview of Memarian’s collection and catch the show when it hits the runway at 5:30 p.m. Pacific Time through a livestream on the Art Institute’s Tumblr.
