Most Vancouverites don’t need an excuse to head down to Gastown. The historic neighbourhood is a mecca for fashion and design, as well as drink and dining spots. This makes attending the bi-annual Gastown Shop Hop a no-brainer, where some of Vancouver’s most stylish clothing, shoes, accessories, and home-furnishing shops will offer discounts, in-store specials, and more. The fall edition of this neighbourhood fête takes place Thursday (October 16) from 5 to 9 p.m.

Over 40 boutiques are participating in the shop hop this season, from the upscale Roden Gray (8 Water Street) and ComplexGeometries (14 Water Street) to the popularly priced Army & Navy (36 West Cordova Street) and Community Thrift & Vintage (311 Carrall Street).

Gastown standbys including denim purveyors Dutil (303 West Cordova Street), shoe designer John Fluevog (65 Water Street), as well as clothing boutiques such as LYNNsteven (225 Carrll Street), Oak & Fort (355 Water Street), One of a Few (354 Water Street), The Block (350 West Cordova Street), Neighbour (125-12 Water Street), and Nouvelle Nouvelle (209 Abbott Street) are included in the mix.

If it’s a pair of new frames you are after, stop by Bruce Eyewear (219 Abbott Street), Eyeland Framemakers (45 Water Street), and Bailey Nelson (303 Cambie Street). Or, get a head start on your holiday shopping at Honey Gifts (350 Water Street), Old Faithful (320 West Cordova Street), Orling & Wu (28 Water Street), and Meadow Gifts & Apparel (104 Water Street).

Perhaps the shop hop will be a chance to check out some of Gastown’s newer additions. Six-month old Meuse Boutique (207 Abbott Street) is a Parisian-inspired emporium of women’s clothing and accessories as well as vintage-inspired home goods and furnishings.

A few blocks away, the year-old Litchfield (38 Water Street) offers a curated collection of handsome yet functional home goods and tools. Meanwhile, the owners of home furnishings boutique L’Atelier Home (452 West Cordova) expanded their shop in 2013 to include Artemisia, a collection of romantic and playful womenswear and accessories.

Power shopping often works up an appetite, so participating retailers will be distributing vouchers that can be redeemed at neighbourhood restaurants. Refuel at Gastown eateries, such as Bambudda (99 Powell Street), the Irish Heather (210 Carrall Street), Nicli Antica Pizzeria (62 East Cordova Street), Salt Tasting Room (45 Blood Alley), Peckinpah (2 Water Street), Lily Mae’s (12 Powell Street), and Blacktail Florist (332 Water Street).
