One of the most anticipated summer events in Vancouver is set to open this Saturday (August 20), and guests can expect a lot more than just SuperDog shows and mini donuts.

The Fair at the PNE (2901 East Hastings Street) has unveiled its line-up of new attractions, some of which are only available this year.

Highlights include the Angry Birds Universe exhibition—a highly interactive experience that features zip-lines, a laser maze, a climbing wall, a planetarium, oversized sling shots, and more; Alien Worlds and Android Exhibit, an indoor attraction for guests to learn more about extra-terrestrials and gadgets; and UNBELIEVABLE: A Magical Experience, which is ideal for those who enjoy illusions and being amazed.

Also new to the 15-day fair is Festival Park—a new entertainment zone with picnic tables, plenty of seats, and a stage that will showcase music, dancing, and special events. One of its main features is the Kaleidoscope on Parade—a daily parade that boasts plenty of colour, catchy tunes, and dancers in fun-themed costumes.

Of course, event-goers who are nostalgic for the Fair favourites don’t need to worry—classic attractions such as the SuperDogs, Summer Night Concerts, ToonCity, and the Craft Beer Fest will be returning to the summer extravaganza.

The Straight was given a sneak peek of the new highlights at the Fair, and we can attest that attendees (young and old) will certainly be entertained by everything from dancing flower pots to jumbo-sized slingshots, and a life-sized figure of Iron Man to touring the contemporary but cozy PNE prize home.

Take a look at the photos below for a sneak peek of the Fair at the PNE this year.
