One of the city's favourite holiday traditions will be moving to a larger space that will overlook the iconic Lions Gate Bridge and North Shore mountains.

The seventh annual Vancouver Christmas Market (November 26 to December 30, 2016) will be moving from the Queen Elizabeth Theatre Plaza to Jack Poole Plaza (1055 Canada Place), also home to the Olympic Cauldron.

The 50,000-square-foot seaside market will feature over 70 huts that will offer everything from holiday décor to hand-made gifts, toys to accessories, and food and drink, among others.

New highlights at the market include an Alpine Haus tent and seating area that can accommodate 250 people; daily demonstrations of the Feuerzangenbowle (directly translated as ‘Fire Tongs Punch’)—a mulled wine-and-rum beverage that is prepared by caramelizing a large sugar cone over the drink; and a 23-foot tall, multi-level Christmas pyramid that will enchant guests with music and decorative angels.

“The move to Jack Poole Plaza means we can warmly welcome more guests to partake in the festivities, while rolling out a number of exciting surprises!” said Malte Kluetz, founder and president of the Vancouver Christmas Market, in a press statement.

Suitable for the entire brood, the market will cater to the young ones with activities like a scavenger hunt, gingerbread decorating at the Gingerbread Haus, visits with Santa at the photo hut, and more.

For the foodies who will be making their way to the holiday event, expect to check out more than 22 food and drink huts, 12 of which will be new. Besides hot apple cider and maple-syrup lollies made on the spot, there won’t be any shortage of German delicacies.

If you think the new introductions at the market is overwhelming, returning favourites such as the Christmas carousel and colourful Christmas tree will definitely evoke some memories.
