Many Vancouver skiers and snowboarders think the closest world-class resort is in Whistler—about 90 minutes up the Sea-to-Sky Highway.

But in fact, it will soon take even less time to reach the Revelstoke Ski Resort, which was recently named the Best Canadian Ski Resort at the 4th Annual Ski Awards ceremony in Kitzbühel, Austria.

That’s because the travel company has teamed up with Pacific Coastal Airlines to fly people every Thursday and Sunday between Vancouver and the B.C. Interior community, starting on January 26.

“We want to let people know you can go from the Vancouver International Airport south terminal to the base of the resort in one hour,” Everything Revelstoke chief operating officer Angela Mowbray said. “You leave at one o’clock. You arrive at two o’clock. You could be walking through the lobby of the Sutton Place in Revelstoke by 2:20 or 2:25.”

The Sutton Place Hotel is the only ski in/ski out accommodation facility at the resort. It comes with a full-size kitchen, high-end appliances, decks, in-room laundry, boot-drying rooms, and a fireplace in the living room. It also offers guests a chance to switch ski rentals, depending on what terrain they’re interested in experiencing, for no extra charge.

Planes depart from Revelstoke at 3 p.m., which means travellers can be back at YVR by 4 p.m. on the same day.

The Beechcraft 1900 flights cost from $249 to $299 each way. There is also private jet service for $6,500 each way.

The airstrip sits at the base of Revelstoke Mountain Resort, as does the Bighorn Lodge, which has been named the world’s best ski chalet for three consecutive years at the World Ski Awards. The timber-framed building includes a high-tech cinema, eight guest suites, a world-class spa, an integrated sound system, spectacular views, as well as private heli-skiing and renowned meals served by a private chef.

Mowbray acknowledged that the Bighorn isn’t cheap, costing up to $90,000 per week. But she quickly added that there’s a range of other accommodation in town, such as the Glacier House Resort and the 200-room Three Valley Lake Chateau.

That’s in addition to hotels catering to a wide variety of clientele. The newest, the Best Western Plus Revelstoke, is minutes from world-class skiing, snowmobiling, and golf facilities. For more options, visit the .

“There are some phenomenal, beautiful, luxurious lodges all the way down to your cool little motel downtown,” Mowbray said.

Everything Revelstoke shuttles guests to their lodging, which is included in the airfare. There’s also a daily in-town shuttle service, the Resort Express, which takes people from hotels that belong to the Revelstoke Accommodation Association to the resort.

Then there are all those winter sports. Revelstoke Mountain Resort established its reputation for topnotch winter warriors keen to engage in cat skiing with unlimited vertical drops in deep, deep powder. There are plenty of opportunities for heli-drops where skiers are placed at the top of the mountain and glide all the way to the bottom, with or without a ski guide.

Revelstoke is also home to Canada’s oldest club for Nordic skiers. But Mowbray pointed out that the resort has also added a large terrain park, which has enhanced its appeal to families.

“The kids love it,” Mowbray said. “We cater to everybody, but we still have the North Bowl. That’s the area where all the tops guys go out and do all their crazy skiing.”

The 16 round-trip flights over an eight-week period are being offered as a result of Everything Revelstoke’s partnership with the City of Revelstoke, Revelstoke Mountain Resort, and the Revelstoke Accommodation Association.

“The city is involved because we’re using the airport and obviously they want to drive more business into the community,” Mowbray said.

Revelstoke, of course, is about more than skiing and snowmobiling. It was originally a railway town created in the 1880s along the Canadian Pacific line. The old brick buildings set the town apart from other B.C. ski resorts, giving it a grittier and, some might say, more authentic feel.

“We’ve just got the most beautiful Victorian homes,” Mowbray said. “The historical district is incredible. There are a lot of Italian-style and English-style buildings because of the people coming in at the time of development in the late 1800s and early 1990s.”

A pioneer around that time was a member of the Gaglardi family, who now own the Revelstoke Ski Resort.

One of the more charming aspects of facility is free weddings. Yes, you read that correctly. According to Mowbray, people can go to the courthouse, buy a marriage licence, and then head up to the MacKenzie outpost at the top of the mountain between noon and 2 p.m. Cake and sparkling wine is served to newlywed lovebirds, or even to those who are just there to renew their vows.

There’s also a professional photographer on-site at these LGBT-friendly ceremonies.

Fully inclusive packages—including a round trip flight from Vancouver to Revelstoke, transfers to lodging, room, rental gear, and lift passes—are available starting from $929 plus hotel taxes. It's reduced to $749 for those taking advantage of the initial January 26 to January 29 weekend.

Three-night Weekend Warrior getaways are included at that low price.

A four-night midweek trip, including a skip away to the Selkirk Mountains, starts at $1,159.

      A seven-night Revy Ripper stay costs $1,699.

And the PowderHound 10-night stay, enabling you to become a local, is priced at $2,245.

All these rates are based on two people sharing a room. Rates are lower if more are added. The single supplement applies, also.

Revelstoke is also not far Halcyon Hot Springs on the shores of the beautiful Arrow Lakes in nearby Nakusp. Mowbray pointed out that visitors to the area can take a dinner-and-dip tour for $125.

“We pick people up in Revelstoke, take them out, down the ferry, and they have their swim,” she said. “Then we have a chef’s gourmet dinner and then we take them back to their hotel by 8:30. They have a nice soak in the hot pool and they’re back to have an awesome heli-day or whatever they’re doing the next day.”

Everything Revelstoke has a lead-in rate of $199, which is part of a Christmas promotion launched on December 22. Those who book before December 31 using the  will qualify for an additional 20 percent discount all-season long, making this initial $199 Christmas rate available for $159.
