A recent deal reached between Air Canada and Cathay Pacific will reduce the hassle for Canadians making their way to Asia.

A codeshare service and reciprocal mileage accrual and redemption benefits are part of the package, which was announced shortly before Christmas.

It means that customers of both airlines can reach their destinations on a single ticket with their bags being checked through all the way.

The agreement takes effect for tickets sold starting on January 12, 2017, for flights starting on January 19, 2017.

"Cathay Pacific customers will be able to book travel on Air Canada flights connecting with Cathay Pacific’s up to three daily flights to Vancouver and up to two daily services to Toronto from Hong Kong," the airlines stated in a joint news release. "Cathay Pacific will place its code on Air Canada flights to all major cities across Canada including Winnipeg, Victoria, Edmonton, Calgary, Kelowna, Regina, Saskatoon, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec, Halifax, and St. Johns."

Air Canada will offer the same services to an additional eight cities in Southeast Asia served by Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon: Manila, Cebu, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiang Mai.
