Vancouver-based athletic label RYU—an acronym for the term Respect Your Universe—has opened its third storefront in Metro Vancouver.

Situated at West Vancouver’s Park Royal South, the 3,967-square-foot shop carries men’s and women’s technical athletic and training apparel, including moisture-wicking Ts, zip-up hoodies, and leggings. The “galleryesque” store also features a curved display wall that showcases the company’s bestselling Quick Pack Lux and Locker Pack Lux, two minimalist backpacks designed for use in and outside the gym.

“We’re here to support the business person who goes to work, works out, and wants something that’s going to transition from the gym to lunch to the office,” Charlotte Harris, store manager at RYU Park Royal, tells the Straight during an interview in the space.

Like its West 4th and Robson Street locations, RYU Park Royal will support the city’s athletic community by hosting various community-minded events. In addition to the free on-site workouts that will be conducted by YYoga and Steve Nash Fitness World during RYU’s grand opening this Saturday (April 8), the shop will offer exercise- and nutrition-related classes throughout the year.

Moveable fixtures and furnishings in the store will help make room for workouts, while an in-house nutrition bar provides fuel. “Respect Your Universe [covers] mind, body, everything,” says Harris. “So what we’re going to be hosting here are a lot of workshops, seminars, meet-ups.”

Prize draws and healthy refreshments will also be offered during this Saturday’s grand opening bash, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Headed by Marcello Leone, a local fashion-industry vet and son of the owners of luxury retailer Leone in downtown Vancouver, RYU launched in 2015 with the opening of its Kitsilano flagship. It now operates three stores in Metro Vancouver with locations slated to open in Burnaby and Toronto later this year.
