One of television's most famous personalities has cancer.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus made the disclosure today on her Twitter feed.

"1 in 8 women get breast cancer," she stated. "Today, I'm the one."

The 56-year-old star of Veep recently won her sixth consecutive Emmy for playing Selina Meyer on the HBO show.

She also spent many years as Elaine Benes on the long-running Seinfeld show.

“The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends," Louis-Dreyfus stated. "The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let’s fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality.”
