Iconic fashion retailer Roots is introducing a unique shopping experience to Vancouver, which complements its line of leather goods and cozy apparel.

The Canadian brand will be unveiling its new Roots Cabin concept store at Pacific Centre (701 West Georgia Street) to the public tomorrow (November 8).

Inspired by a modern cabin, the 3,868-square-foot space is characterized by a B.C. Western Cedar wall panel, a hand-made canoe, and reclaimed wood elements. It is the first of its kind in Western Canada, and one of the three in the world (with the first opening in Taiwan).

“Vancouver was selected for the Roots Cabin enhanced experience format because the truly unique active lifestyle found here inspired our desire to be more connected to the open air of the outdoors,” said Jim Gabel, Roots president and CEO, in a press statement. “This store exclusively offers a wider merchandise selection, leather customization, and elevated leather and footwear offerings.”

The store features a customization shop, themed change rooms, and a comfy lounge area for customers to relax, browse online merchandise, or enjoy refreshments.

“It’s called an enhanced experience store, and it’s the most elevated experience we offer in the marketplace. Because we have leather customization, you can customize a jacket or a bag or monogram products,” Gabel told the Straight in an interview at the new Roots shop. “Those are some of the things you will find in this store that you might not find at other stores in the province.”

Roots was established in 1973 in Toronto; it operates 19 retail locations in British Columbia and 116 stores Canada-wide.

“We’ve been so fortunate to have a remarkable relationship with B.C. for almost over 40 years,” added Gabel. “In many ways, this market may be the most connected one to our brand because of the open-air, the mountains, and the water. All those things make up Roots.”
