The Fort Gallery artists are celebrating the return of the sun in a group show, December 13, 2017 to February 4, 2018.

Since ancient times, people from all cultures around the world have recognized and celebrated the astronomical event we have come to call the “Winter Solstice” -- the shortest day of the year, marking the “return” of the sun. Artists of The Fort Gallery are assembling a group show in honour of this important time of year. Works will encom-pass a variety of different styles and interpretations of what Winter Solstice and the promise to come represent to the contributing artists.

Please join us for the opening reception of Winter Solstice, which will be held in con-junction with December First Thursday (actually held on the second Thursday this month), December 14th, 7-9pm. On the First Thursday of each month, The Fort Gallery hosts a variety of visual artists, writers and poets, and musicians from the local commu-nity who share their gifts and creations. On December 14th, we are pleased to welcome percussionist Dr. Daniel Tones.

Daniel Tones is an award-winning percussionist recognized for his work as a soloist and chamber musician. He has performed with internationally recognized artists Bob Becker, Aiyun Huang, Morris Palter, and Steve Schick, and has been broadcast nationally on radio and television. He studied with Salvador Ferreras, Russell Hartenberger, and John Rudolph, and was the first person to receive a doctorate in percussion performance from a Canadian university. Daniel teaches at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, and provides workshops regularly to students throughout Metro Vancouver.

Please note: the gallery will be closed December 23, 2017-January 7, 2018.

The Fort Gallery thanks the Township of Langley for sponsorship of First Thursday community arts events.
