On the first Thursday of each month, The Fort Gallery hosts a variety of visual artists, writers and poets, and musicians from the local community who share their gifts and creations. On March 1st, 7-9pm, we are pleased to welcome cellist Sabrina Juan.

Sixteen year old Sabrina has been on stage performing in music festivals and recitals since she began her music lessons at the age of five. Equally adept as both cellist and pianist, she studies piano with Kathy Bjorseth, and cello with Joel Stobbe and Bo Peng.

In the summer of 2017, Sabrina travelled to Italy to participate in the Casalmaggiore International Music Festival where she performed as both soloist and chamber musician. Last November, she was the winner of the Fraser Valley Concerto Competition, and has recently performed as a soloist with the Fraser Valley Symphony Orchestra. Currently, Sabrina is the principal cellist of the Surrey Youth Orchestra, and enjoys performing with the Langley Community Music School Cello Ensemble, as well as with a quartet in the community.

Also featured at this month’s First Thursday are a number of artists from the gallery’s current group exhibit, which contemplates the pitfalls and promises of our times in light of a lyric from Leonard Cohen’s Anthem. “There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.” runs until March 4th.

The Fort Gallery thanks the Township of Langley for sponsorship of First Thursday community arts events.
