CHALLENGES IN FORMALIZING COGNITIVE ART-SCIENCE RESEARCH
In this talk, Shanti Ganesh will discuss the challenges and opportunities of doing art-science research related to the cognitive sciences. Since 2012 Ganesh started exploring a novel research method in which critical reflection through art practice, e.g dance and performance, can inform theoretical and methodological issues in cognitive science and neuroscience. Ganesh will furthermore address the challenge of translating results from artistic research that does not necessarily follow the formal rules of scientific enquiry, in such a way that these results are applicable in science or, more fundamentally, can even alter the practice of scientific enquiry itself.
SPEAKER BIO
Shanti Ganesh is a cognitive neuroscientist and psychologist (PhD, 2013) also trained in public administration (MA, 1994), currently working on the crossroads of critical art, cognitive science and new technologies, e.g. humanoid robots. Since 2015 Shanti started engaging with a dynamic group of artists, scholars and scientists in Vancouver that come together in varying configurations to train, produce bold work and critically reflect on their art practices and political contexts.
