In 1844, 26-year-old Karl Marx (August Diehl) and his wife Jenny (Vicky Krieps) are living in exile in Paris. Indebted and troubled by an existential crisis, he meets the slightly younger Friedrich Engels (Stefan Konarske), son of a factory owner. Although Marx at first dismisses him as a member of the privileged upper class, the two impetuous young men become friends, and inspire each other to write texts that lay the theoretical foundation for a revolution. From director Raoul Peck (I Am Not Your Negro).
