The lineage of this empowerment comes from King Songtsen Gampo, the great benevolent King of Tibet. Arya Avalokitesvara (Chenrezig), assuming the form of human king in Songtsen Gampo, translated the Sutra and Tantra teachings and proclaimed the practice of ten virtues in the whole of Tibet. With compassion aplenty, he showed the path of Ripening and Realization to the fortunate and uncommon disciples. He pioneered the birth of Buddhism in Tibet and introduced and propagated the practice of the six-syllabi Mantra. Aiming for the betterment of future disciples, he classified the teachings of Arya Avalokiteshwara into three categories regarding the Sutra, the Practice (Tantra) and the Advices, which later widely came to be known as the royal testament of the king. Thus came the first ever Dharma of Tibet, popularly known as the Mahakarunakaya King’s Tradition—the wish-fulfilling jewel of the subduer of beings.
