With Shadow Guides, printmaker and painter Maria Tratt continues to explore the theme of personal memory through the creation of imaged contexts of origin. Building on the tradition of daemons, guardian spirits that manifest as external physical aspects of a person’s character, these new works combine etching, aquatint, collagraph and monotype techniques to develop a formal layering that hints at the possibility of multiple and simultaneous existences.
