When does space become place?
What makes a place a home?
What is a sense of place?

In Japan, people use at least four different words for “space,” building spaces that can enrich their experience of the world and that of those around them. In the West, we say “Paradise isn't a place. It's a feeling.”

So, where is your place in this city?

Vancouver Arts Colloquium Society invites you to a participatory creative mapping project where we explore the relationship between place and our identities and discover an interesting way of knowing and expressing the spaces we make and use in everyday life—and the relationships that they create, through our own poetry, sound, image, and movement. A new way of engaging with the Vancouver West Side will emerge and become an interactive online map to be shared with the world.

Each workshop is structured to explore four themes and includes a guest artist talk and creative art making activities. These activities involve movement between pre-reflective and reflective levels and support the process of transforming inner experiences into symbolic form that can be communicated to others: words, images, sounds, or movements. Bring your curiosity and imagination and be part of this new creative mapping project! For more information and workshop dates and times, check out our website at my vacs.org/map.

People of All ages, backgrounds, and abilities are welcome!
