It's the final Hot Club Swing before we take the party outside for Dancing in the Street for July & August, and we're absolutely tickled to welcome the Alan Matheson Septet/Nonet (actually in a Quintet form, but we wanted to tag him)! Alan is a prolific trumpeter, jazz pianist, composer, and arranger who teaches jazz trumpet & piano in prestigious local jazz programs--we can't wait to see who he brings with him to round out the group, and can't wait to swing out hard to their tunes

As per usual, we will kick off the night with our total beginner drop-in swing dance lesson--no partner and no previous dance experience necessary! The Vancouver Swing Society firmly believes that any and every body can learn to follow and/or lead, regardless of age, gender expression, ability, and any other aspect of identity. All we ask is that you choose one role (lead or follow) to learn during the lesson, and stick with it for the duration of the class. Once the lesson is over and social dancing starts, you are welcome and encouraged to follow, lead, or switch off roles as much as you like--with your partner's consent, of course!

Hot Club Swing takes place in the Dance Studio of the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre in Yaletown, Vancouver-- the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Tseil-Waututh, Skwxwú7mesh Úxwxmixw (Squamish), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) First Nations. The Dance Studio is located on the ground floor of the Centre, which is wheelchair, powerchair, and stroller-accessible from the street. Accessible single stall washrooms are also available inside the Roundhouse.

-SAFETY-

Swing dancing is an awesome physical activity that anyone can learn to do! We want everyone who attends Hot Club Swing to have a fun, welcoming, and safe experience. To ensure this, the Vancouver Swing Society has a Code of Conduct in place at all its events. Please review it on our website: http://www.vanswingsociety.ca/code-of-conduct We will also have it posted at the event and available at our information table.

-LOCATION-

The Roundhouse Community Centre is located in the Yaletown district of Vancouver, just steps from a variety of transit options: the Yaletown-Roundhouse Canada Line station, bike and walking paths along the Sea Wall, and the 6 & C23 bus routes. There is also a pay parkade underneath the Roundhouse, which is accessible off Drake. Parking is $3.50/hr on weekends.

-NOTE-

Please note that Hot Club Swing is *not* a Roundhouse programme; our affiliation is strictly rental. If you have any questions or comments about Hot Club Swing, please reach out to us via our Facebook pages, email listed above, or check our website for further information: www.vanswingsociety.ca
