L'Arche is a centre for people with developmental disabilities created outside Paris in the 1960s by a Canadian-born former naval officer, Jean Vanier. The institution is indeed an ark, an inspiring model for a genuinely caring and nurturing environment, as opposed to the asylums in which its residents might earlier have languished. In this moving documentary Vanier and the other inhabitants of L'Arche share their joys and sorrows, offering a glimpse of a more simple and caring life.
