Festivals, Performing Arts

The Queer Arts Festival, in co-presentation with the frank theatre company, presents the world premiere of Lesley Ewen’s new multimedia performance, Camera Obscura (hungry ghosts), on June 20-23, 2018 at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre. The play is a fantastic imagining of trail-blazing multi-media provocateur and Audain Prize Recipient Paul Wong’s early years, haunted by the project that launched his career, Murder Research, and its dark, unexpected consequences. Written and directed by Lesley Ewen, the story follows Wong who is visited by two hungry ghosts from his past. These spectres force Wong to review his past actions, in light of the intersecting and sometimes contradictory pressures on racialized minorities within Canadian colonialism, generating a new understanding in the present, the release of old grief, and a little bit of revenge.
