In advance of the launch of our new publication on the work of Jeneen Frei Njootli, Driftpile Cree Nation scholar and 2018 Griffin Poetry Prize recipient Billy-Ray Belcourt will read from his commissioned text and other recent poetic works.

Bio
Billy-Ray Belcourt is from the Driftpile Cree Nation. He is a Ph.D. student in the Department of English & Film Studies at the University of Alberta. He is a 2016 Rhodes Scholar who read for an M.St. in Women's Studies at the University of Oxford. This Wound is a World is his first book; it won the 2018 Canadian Griffin Poetry Prize. It was also named the best "Canadian poetry" collection of 2017 by CBC Books and the Most Significant Book of Poetry in English by an Emerging Indigenous Writer in 2017 at the Indigenous Voices Awards. His next book, NDN Coping Mechanisms: Notes from the Field, is due out in the fall of 2019 with House of Anansi Press.
